The North American Scherschel Reunion of 2025 is officially in the books and pictorially preserved for generations to come!
Just over a week ago the annual tradition continued of Scherschel descendants gathering from across America at Bedford, IN to mark the 66th year of our reunions. Our most sincere thanks and appreciation go to our hosts, Mike Scherschel, his sister Susan (Scherschel) Thompson and their families.
If any attendees of the gathering have additional photos or video that they would like to submit to the album archives for preservation, please email them to legacyscherschel@gmail.com or message them to the Scherschel Legacy Facebook page. It turned out to be another completely successful gathering and the weather was beautiful.
Included herein are the photos from the day. The official reunion portrait includes the attendees. Other portraits from the day show the direct bloodline descendants of the current oldest living generation of Scherschel cousins (the 4th generation since immigration) present at the gathering and the successive generations. As well, there are images from the day capturing sites from the homestead farm of Rudolph Joseph and Ida Belle (Mize) Scherschel, who were Mike and Susan’s grandparents. To weave together the strands of history, we’ve also included black and white photos of the first reunion held at the same location.
Looking ahead to next year’s gathering, if any descendant families would like to host at a specific location on the traditional weekend of or after Father’s Day (which looks to be June 20, 2026 since Saturdays seem to work best in current times), please reply to this email address. If a volunteer household or group amongst the descendants doesn’t come forward by early January, we’ll survey a location from amongst the cousins and inform everyone by early February.
Again, we want to thank the Susan and Mike Scherschel and their families for keeping our tradition going strong, making our ancestors proud and continuing to preserve our family ties. We had a phenomenal time at the ancestral farm. The next volume of the genealogy books (the North American Scherschel descendant line of the Hungarian branch of Scherschels) is slowly under construction and anticipated to be released around Christmas time. Have a great summer everyone!
